Although nothing can stop the process of aging, a face lift can certainly help! If you have the money to afford it and the motivation to reverse the ravages of time on your face, then a face lift may be for you. As we age, our skin goes through a myriad of changes. Our cells divide more slowly than they did before. The lower layer of our skin becomes thinner and loses its elasticity and tautness. Eventually, the skin becomes loose and saggy, which makes the skin and the tissue beneath even more susceptible to the forces of gravity. Thus, instead of springing back into place when pulled, the skin will sag. To add insult to injury, as we age, the tissues and muscles beneath our skin change, leading to a wrinkled appearance. And while a face lift cannot completely erase the signs of growing older, and it cannot fix every problem area of the aging face (like eyebrows or sagging eyelids), it can do a great deal to make you look younger again. The Cosmetic Matching Service can help you find clinics in your area that are experienced in performing face lifts. This service allows you to enter minimal information about procedures that interest you and be matched with clinics in your local area that have a good track record and satisfied clients.
What Happens During a Face Lift?
Face lift procedure is slightly different for each person because each face has its own unique contour and shape. Prior to face lift surgery, the doctor will evaluate your skin and explain the benefits and risks of the procedure. A face lift may be performed in an office setting, or in a hospital. You will likely be awake during the procedure, but local anesthetics and sedatives will keep you from feeling the procedure as it is done. During the face lift, the surgeon will make an incision that begins around the hair line and then curves around the lobe of the ear, ending at the bottom of the hair line. He will then separate the skin from the muscle and fat beneath and may suction out fat to give your face a slimmer look. He will then tighten the layer of tissue beneath the skin, lifting the cheeks, firming the neck, and giving the jaw line greater definition. As a last step, the surgeon will then pull the skin taut over the area and then remove any surplus skin using a laser or knife before closing the incision with sutures, stitches, or tissue glue. It can take from two to four hours for a face lift.
Non-Surgical Face Lift Options
There are also some non-surgical face lift options that you might consider. These options can give you very similar benefits to a traditional face lift, minus the risks and the costs that are associated with the procedure. These newer generation face lift options include:
